What's Happening in Scottsdale, AZ…

Fall trail rides available for bicyclists

The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy is presenting two bike rides for Scottsdale bike riders – one towards the end of September and the other in mid-October.

Biker riders at the intermediate skill level are asked to be at the Fraesfield Trailhead, 134 E Rio Verde Drive, to Ride the Gooseneck. The three-hour route will be 10 to 12 miles long, and all bikes must be fitted with wide knobby tires. Guests are asked not to bring hybrids, electric assists, folding, or road bikes. The first half-mile will be a moderate cardio level ride but the rest will be quite flat.

Ride the Gooseneck at Fraesfield Trailhead will be September 23 from 7:30 am to 10:30 am.

A few weeks later, the Ride Granite Mountain Loop at Granite Mountain Trailhead will also be an intermediate ride. The six-mile, two-and-a-half-hour ride will be an intermediate cardio ride with winding downhills and some climbing. Riders may opt to walk the short technical section.

Rides will be “no drops,” which means that no riders will be left behind. All riders will be required to wear helmets. They should show up at least 15 minutes early and bring snacks and water.

Bicyclists often have pictures taken of themselves and friends before and after rides like these, and get duplicates made at nearby print shops to prove that they completed the trip.

Ride the Granite Mountain Loop will take place October 14 from 7:30 am to 10:00 am at the Granite Mountain Trailhead, 31402 N. 136th Street.
