Cycling enthusiasts gear up for Scottsdale ride

The 13th annual Tour de Scottsdale is coming next month.

The event will have a 70-mile ride for the professional riders and a 30-mile one for citizens. The race is limited to the first 2,000 cyclists to register.

Ten start corrals will be used. The course will be circumnavigating the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy Preserve. The Conservancy and DC Ranch will produce and host the event, and proceeds will go to the preserve

Participants can ride mountain bikes, handbikes, and recumbents or any bike that can be ridden safely in a large group. The bike must have either flat bars or drop bars – aero-type bikes are prohibited.

Spectators will want to use the live tracking system on their mobile devices to get their banners ready as their favorite rides near their cheering spots. The 30-mile course will have one text message alert, and the 70-mile course will have three.

Virtual goody bags will be available online to registrants, and will send each participant an email inviting them to claim the bags on their website. Bags will include offers, sponsor messages, and coupons.

The Tour de Scottsdale is scheduled for October 9 and both rides will begin at 6:30 am. Both start and finish in DC Ranch at Market Street, which is near the southeast juncture of Thompson Peak Parkway and Pima Road in Scottsdale.
