What's Happening in Scottsdale, AZ…

Asian festivities come to Arizona

Early next month, the Arizona Asian American Association will be holding its 21st Asian Treasures Festival. This will be two days of authentic ethnic foods, music, dance, costumes, demonstrations, and folk art. More than 16 cultures will be represented.

The Avenue of Cultures area will offer décor, artifacts, art, crafts, and clothing sold by people who will be discussing their culture. Children can enjoy the passport challenge.

The Cultural Stage will have over 20 performances. Some of these will be displays such as tea ceremonies from Asia, China, Vietnam, Korea and Japan, as well as martial arts performances such as the Acrobatic Chinese Lion Dancers and Korean taekwondo demonstrations. Dances will include Mexican Folklore, Classical Chinese, Korean Court, Indian Classical, and the Vietnamese Sand Dance. Pictures taken at this event will make colorful subjects for future poster printing.

The event will also have a Culinary Taste of Asia, an Asian Marketplace, a Cultural Fashion Show, and souvenir booths.

There will be a Children’s Wonderland of hands–on arts and crafts. This area will also have games, and Master Ong will be teaching the little ones the fine art of juggling.

This free event is scheduled for December 3 and 4 at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall at 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. Festivities will begin at 10:00 am and close around 5:00 pm.
