Flagstaff Folk Festival returns

Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music is about to present its 24th annual Flagstaff Folk Festival for two days.

A celebration of acoustic and folk music, more than 100 acts will perform on five stages over the course of the weekend.

Entries for the Route 66 Centennial Songwriting Competition should reflect what Route 66 means to the songwriter, with themes such as discovery, travel, and freedom. The contest will begin at noon at the CCA Theater on the Sunday.

Teen Musician Showcases for performers from ages 13 to 17 singing one song each will begin on both days at 12:00 noon on the Outback Stage.

Musicians will pay tribute to Bob Weir (Grateful Dead) and Tony Norris (Folk Festival's founder). The Tony Norris Tribute Block will take place on the Saturday at 1:00 pm on the Outback Stage, while the Bob Weir Tribute Block will be on the Sunday beginning at 11:00 am at the Amphitheater.

Workshops have been designed for young musicians and will include introduction to acoustic instruments, voice songwriting, and storytelling. An Artisan Market, meanwhile, will have vendors selling unique handmade merchandise. Artisan vendors often have one of their most popular items printed on colorful Business Cards.

The 24th Annual Flagstaff Folk Festival will be held in the wooded area at Coconino Center for the Arts and the Pioneer Museum, 2300 N Fort Valley Road next Saturday, June 13 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday, June 14 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
