La Santa Cecilia, fittingly enough, are named after Saint Cecilia, music's patron saint. The band is based in Los Angeles, and takes inspiration for their work from throughout the world, using the rhythms of Pan-America including klezmer, jazz, tango, bolero, rumba, bossa-nova, and cumbria. The way in which they mix these various genres have won them legions of fans, as well as awards including several Grammys.
The band's debut album was “Noche y Citas,” which they released in 2011. It won a Latin Grammy nomination for “La Negra,” a single. The following year NPR's Alt Latino named “El Valor,” one of the year's best albums, and in 2013, they released “Treinta Días” which won a Grammy for Best Latin Rock Album, Alternative or Urban. They continued their winning streak in2016, receiving nominations for a Latin Grammy and a Grammy for the album “Buenaventura.”
Writing in “Billboard,” Suzette Fernandez says:
"La Santa Cecilia is a musical and spiritual triumph, a celebration of life in the wake of tragedy that honors the Mexican, Venezuelan and Nicaraguan musical heritage of the band’s members, and their Los Angeles musical heritage of punk.”
The band will be at the Chandler Center for the Arts on May 9, 2021, a rescheduling from an earlier date. Poster printing is often used to publicize events like this.
