Residents who are curious about their local fire department have a chance to look into the firehouse soon.
The Chandler Fire Department has scheduled an open house, and everyone is welcome. The department is opening the firehouse to the public as part of its ongoing project to let the public know what kinds of services it provides. It also hopes to share emergency preparedness, fire prevention, and safety information with visitors.
The open house is part of events planned in connection with 2019 Fire Prevention Week. The official FPW differs from year to year, but always includes the October 9 date, which is Fire Prevention Day, and commemorates the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The theme of FPW this week is “Not everyone wears a cape. Plan and Practice your Escape.”
In addition to being able to tour the fire station, there will be displays of firefighting apparatus, ambulances, and fire trucks, and demonstrations will be given of emergency medical services. People will be able to have their blood pressure checked, and children who visit the Fire Safety House will learn how to get out of an environment filled with smoke. The youngsters will also be given fire helmets and balloons. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for visitors to events like this.
Fire Station Number 9, which is on North Desert Breeze Boulevard, will be open to everyone from 9:00 am until noon on October 12. The event is free.
