Popular Casa Grande event to proceed, with modifications

There appears to be a new Grinch this year in the form of the ongoing pandemic, but Casa Grande will not be deterred from celebrating the season with one of its signature events—albeit slightly modified.

For 26 years, Casa Grande has kicked off the holiday season with its Electric Light Parade, an evening parade of vehicles of all kinds, from private cars and trucks to those driven by city employees, all decked out in lights. This year, however, the parade is being transformed into an “Electric Light Tour.” Steve Hardesty, the Community Services Director for Casa Grande, said the event will be live, but with some virtual aspects. The light displays will not be on parade, but will be stationary exhibits, placed where the participants choose.

Instead of crowding together along Florence Boulevard to view the parade, people will be able to drive to the displays, which can be seen without getting out of a vehicle. All those taking part in the event will have the location of their display listed on a map. Flyer printing can be used to create the type of map to be used in an event like this.

The event begins December 5, 2020, in two different formats. Those who wish may set up a lighted display from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on December 5. Alternatively, if they wish, they may set up and have their lights on display from December 5 until December 20, although the displays will only be judged on December 5.
