The Casa Grande Union High School will host a production of The Nutcracker this December.
Presented by The Studio and featuring the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, it follows the story of a little girl who gets wrapped up in a magical adventure after she befriends a nutcracker who comes to life. Together, they must overthrow the evil Mouse King in battle.
The last of his three ballets, Tchaikovsky took inspiration from the fantasy story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, The Nutcracker, and the Mouse King. However, a toned-down adaptation by Alexandre Dumas was used as the source material.
Originally performed as an orchestral suite in 1892 before the debut of the ballet proper later that year, The Nutcracker premiered as a double-billing alongside Iolanta, a one-act opera by the same composer, at St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre.
With a mission that includes educating students in dance and empowering them with creativity, The Studio teaches dance classes from preschoolers through adults, and every grade in between. Its classes include ones in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, point, and hip-hop.
Performances like this may choose to use Print shops for ballet programs and promotional material.
The Nutcracker is playing on Friday, December 19 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, December 20 at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Casa Grande Union High School at 2730 North Trekell Rd.
