New board in place at local airport

A new board has been appointed at the Casa Grande Municipal Airport.

Richard Wilkie, the airport manager, hopes tensions will ease as the new board members take their places, after some travelers had expressed concern about the facility.

The five are Bradford Sharp, David Goss, Richard Calcaterra, Lindsey Goss, and Donald Domeyer. Wilkie says that people who want to talk to airport management, but not necessarily to him, now have a forum where they can talk about their concerns.

Among the problems or concerns at the field are proposed fees for hangar rentals, as well as flooding, leaky roofs, and difficulties closing and opening hangar doors. At least one issue has been resolved, as the hangar rental fees were removed from an overall increase in fees.

Wilkie has proposed improvements to the airport amounting to about $600,000. He says part of the money will go to beef up security, which will limit the access vehicles have to the taxiways, runways, and fuel tanks. There has been some opposition to the increased security, but Wilkie points out that people are not entitled to simply drive onto the field.

Wilkie and the board members might consider working with a Casa Grande flyer printing company to create a mailer for residents introducing the new board and the proposed changes, and seeking input.
