Free seeds for gardeners in Casa Grande
Casa Grande gardeners who want to prepare their gardens for the fall are invited to a Free Seed Gathering at the Roller Derby Garden in September.
The seed gathering is an annual pop-up event to get people planting crops. An emphasis on the educational importance of seed-saving and self-sustainable living is a running theme of the event.
The event also has opportunities for participants to share seeds with charitable organizations, including the Garden Exchange Stands Org and Isa’s Garden Charities.
Free-food advocacy, promoting food security and teaching food supply chain management are key elements of the event, which includes shared spaces for community gathering and networking.
Hosted by the non-profit Plant N Garden Stand Foundation, it is one of several other events the charitable organization hosts around the community, including for things such as creating home-made body and face creams with cinnamon, foraging desert plants and creating and filling origami seed packets.
The goal of the organization is to make food sovereignty more robust within the community by creating a network of places where people can receive the resources to create self-sustaining food supplies. People from a variety of gardening fields are involved with the seed gathering event, including florists, horticulturists, botanists and ethnobotanists.
Gardening events like this may choose to use brochure printing for seed selection menus and programming.
The Free Seed Gathering is happening on September 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Roller Derby Garden at 798 North Picacho Street in Casa Grande.
