California's Lucid Motors, which manufactures electric vehicles to compete with Tesla, is planning to build an assembly plant in Casa Grande, according to an article on AZcentral.com.
The new venture could create as many as 2,000 jobs in the next five years. The plant construction is valued at $700m, and Lucid officials said the Casa Grande location could have cars rolling off the assembly line by the end of 2018. Manufacturers in Sonora, Mexico, would supply some of the parts for the vehicles.
Bob Jackson, the mayor of Casa Grande, said that Lucid's decision was another sign that the city is becoming known as a great place for innovation and technology. He added that Casa Grande has spent the last five years working hard to attract companies that will boost the economy of the entire area.
The chief technology officer of Lucid, Peter Rawlinson, released a written statement in which he said he believes Lucid could become the “global leader in automotive technology,” and that Arizona is the perfect place for the company to continue its work.
Doug Ducey, the governor of Arizona, said the state's mix of low taxes, good education, light regulation, and an enjoyable lifestyle make it an ideal state for companies to start up, or relocate.
Projects like this are of interest to many area residents, so officials might consider working with a newsletter printing company to keep them in the loop as work progresses.
