A class that is both unusual and fun will be held in Casa Grande.
Patty Kramer will be the instructor for a papermaking class in which students will learn to make unique papers filled with organic materials from various sources. Students will first make pulp, and then add dried plant fibers of different types to the pulp to create texture, character, and interest. The process will be accomplished by using wood and plastic molds and blenders, and students will use different methods of pressing water from the new paper sheets.
Hand-made paper is an attractive and intriguing product and can be used for many purposes, such as making bookmarks, hand-crafted cards, or collages.
Kramer advises attendees to wear an old shirt or an apron, as colored papers can leave stains when they are wet. She also notes that all the materials for the class are provided, but people are welcome to bring any fibers they want to use. Kramer says any dried planet material will work, including dried leaves or flowers from the yard, and string. All types of paper will also work. Flyer printing can be used to provide instruction sheets for events like this.
The class is set for August 19 from 1:30 pm until 4:00 pm, and students will return to pick up the finished papers August 21, from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm. All skill levels are welcome, and the venue is the Casita Workshop on West Wilson Street.
