Restrictions could slow motorists in the Casa Grande area for the next two weeks, as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) performs bridge work on I-10.
Casa Grande officials are warning motorists that they might face overnight restrictions, as well as delays, as ADOT crews install girders that will add to new bridges on I-10 where it crosses over Jimmie Kerr Boulevard. Drivers on both Jimmie Kerr Boulevard and the freeway could be affected.
In January, two newly-built, two-lane bridges were opened. They carry I-10 traffic across Jimmie Kerr Boulevard. The work being done now will add a shoulder, and a third line, to the bridges, in each direction.
I-10 will not be closed during the construction, but lanes will be restricted near milepost 198, which is Jimmie Kerr Boulevard. Drivers should slow down and look for Signs to tell them which lanes are closed. Jimmie Kerr will occasionally be closed during the project. Officials can use poster printing to create the necessary Signs for projects like this.
Roadwork is being carried out throughout the Casa Grande area, and most projects are expected to be finished by summer. One will create a six-lane freeway through Tucson from Casa Grande.
Work on the project began recently, and is expected to continue until approximately May 9. From 8:00 pm every night until 6:00 am the next day, restrictions will be in effect.
