A Casa Grande school has received a grant to help improve its library.
Casa Grande Middle School recently received a grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries. The foundation recently made $5,000 grants to 205 schools in 43 different states as part of its program in support of libraries.
Lisa Morris-Wilkey, the lead librarian for the Casa Grande Elementary School District, said the school is delighted to receive the grant, since the last year has been stressful for families and students, as well as staff members. The library will use the grant to replace Books that have been lost during the health crisis, as well as adding new Books to the library to reflect the dreams, experiences, and passions of the students. When events like this occur, flyer printing can be used to create handouts for users listing the additions.
In general, the libraries that won grants have outdated collections that have an average age of 20 years. Many libraries will use the grant money to update these collections, provide more dual-language Books, and add Books that focus on inclusivity and diversity.
The Foundation helps support those libraries that are struggling, with the idea of helping students develop a love of learning and reading. Since 2002 when the Foundation was formed, over 2,800 schools throughout the nation have received grants totaling over $16 million.
