Casa Grande officials recently gave the go-ahead to a new adult-living project that will place 205 manufactured homes on 42 acres, in a resort-like development.
The Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission was informed by staff members that the project would be a good opportunity for the city to develop infill housing. Infill housing is often thought of as new housing built on underused or vacant lots located among existing properties, in well-established neighborhoods. The site of the new development is bordered by O’Neil Drive on the south, Casa Grande Avenue on the east, and Viola Street on the north.
The report to the commission pointed out that the site is surrounded by development on all sides, and creating the housing would transform what is now a dirt lot into housing that would use city services and the infrastructure that already exists.
In addition to approving the project, the commission voted for a zoning change to allow single-family homes to be located on the site. The city council will have to approve this change. Brochure printing is often used to show the amenities of projects like this.
Reaction from surrounding neighborhoods has been largely positive, particularly as the new community is designated as adults 55 and over only. The homes are expected to be priced between $125,000 and $250,000 and would help Casa Grande meet the demand in the area for housing of this type.
