Casa Grande leaders discuss 2019 projects

As 2019 began, Casa Grande leaders discussed the projects they see upcoming for the community in the new year. This includes projects with the parks and recreation department, and the police, among others.

Larry Rains, Casa Grande's city manager, said the city's new Community Recreation Center is scheduled to open in the spring. The facility will give residents an opportunity to achieve and maintain their desired fitness levels, as well as expanding their recreation programs, which are suitable for people of any age.

Carr McNatt Park will be improved and renovated, with parking and lighting being upgraded and improved, walking paths installed, a spray park built, and a new playground constructed. New sports fields that can be used for multiple activities will also be developed. The park renovations are due to begin in January. Another park, the Dave White Regional Park, is also due to receive improvements during 2019.

Mark McCrory, the Casa Grande police chief, summarized the upcoming activities in his department, the first of which is to increase its recruiting efforts. The department is currently operating at less than full strength, and McCrory would like to add at least five officers to the roster. He added the department is currently rethinking its recruiting efforts to reach more candidates from the local area.
