High school seniors throughout the nation can apply for scholarships offered by the Casa Grande Valley Elks Lodge.
The lodge sponsors a ‘Most Valuable Student’ scholarship, which is open to both males and females; applications are judged on financial need, leadership abilities, and scholarship. Applications are due by December 5, 2014, and should be submitted to the lodge on Florence Boulevard in Casa Grande.
The lodge also sponsors a Legacy Award. This is a separate award given to a high school senior who is a grandchild or child of an Elk who is still living, and who became an Elk on or before April 1, 2012. Alternatively, the student's relative may be a charter member of an Elks lodge that was founded on or after that date.
The Elk sponsoring the student must have a membership that runs at least through March 31, 2015, and be dues-paying. Applications for the Legacy Award can only be submitted online, and must be received by noon, Central Time, on January 30, 2015.
The Most Valuable Student awards are limited to students who are enrolled full-time, which is defined as taking at least 12 semester hours, and who are studying at a U.S. university or college to attain a four-year degree.
The Elks could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for high schools, describing the scholarship programs so students are aware these opportunities exist.
