What's Happening in Casa Grande, AZ…

Airport to land a facelift

Casa Grande Municipal Airport is slated to undergo a $35,000 renovation, and city residents have been asked for their input into the process.

Richard Wilkie, who is the development manager for Casa Grande and its airport, wants as much feedback and input as possible. He notes that the airport is the first introduction many visitors have to the community, and he wants that impression to be the best possible.

Wilkie noted that airport officials worked with college students several years ago on a strategic plan, and the result was so successful that managers decided to reach out to students once again to help with the terminal renovation. With that in mind, officials approached 18 Arizona schools that have interior design or architecture programs, and asked if they would participate. Five schools indicated they were interested, but only two teams—one from the American Institute of Interior Design and the second from the Art Institute of Phoenix—submitted designs by the deadline.

Wilkie said that the new design will incorporate ideas from both, and then the public can vote on the things they like best, including furniture, flooring, lighting, landscaping, and shade structures from the patios.

Such a collaborative effort will work best if everyone is involved, so airport officials could work with a flyer printing company to get a mailer ready for Casa Grande residents, listing the improvements and asking for a vote via return mail.
