A gourd time coming to Casa Grande

Residents of Casa Grande have an unusual event coming up that promises to be fun for participants of all ages.

Wuertz Gourd Farm has organized the 17th Annual Gourd Festival, the “Running of the Gourds.” The event will bring together more than 100 vendors and gourd artists. There will also be games, live music going non-stop, a kindergourden, and a large number of booths offering a wide variety of tasty treats for people to try.

Saturday will bring mini-Gourdster races, and those who have pre-registered will be able to attend classes during the event. In addition, there will be a juried show organized by the Arizona Gourd Society. The Society dedicates itself to educating and providing instruction to anyone who is interested in gourd art, which often consists of using the gourds themselves as the objects to be painted. It also supports those who want to learn about the history of gourds, and how to grow them.

Finally, there will be thousands of dried gourds available for purchase.

The celebration of all things gourdish will be held at the Pinal Fairgrounds in Casa Grande, on February 7, 8, and 9. Hours on the first two days are from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, and on the final day, the hours are 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Admission is $10, with children being admitted for free. Banner printing can be used to provide colorful decorations for events like this.
