Pirate fun day raises money for East Kilbride hospice

A Pirate-themed fun day that was recently held at a school in East Kilbride raised a hefty amount for a local hospice thanks to the combined efforts of pupils and teachers.

Bellshill-based St Gerard's Primary School has been working to raise money for a range of local charities throughout April and their fund-raising drive came to an end with a special celebration that saw pupils enjoying a day of activities that would have made Captain Jack Sparrow himself feel at home.

Children attended school wearing pirate fancy dress and took part in a programme of seaworthy activities, including games, a funfair and a sponsored race. The pupils also spent time making and baking tasty pirate treats and even playing pirate games on their computers, all to raise money for the local charities.

The children also designed and created their very own 'wanted' Posters. Printing companies in Coatbridge often get involved with fund-raising activities like this, either by providing services like poster printing to bring the fundraisers' artwork to life, or by promoting fundraising activities using poster or banner printing.

Coatbridge and Bellshill businesses, such as Lidl and Mr Michael Florists, also helped out by donating prizes for raffles and competitions, giving the event the extra boost that it needed to get parents and friends of the school digging deep to raise money.

The activity raised a total of £1,572, which will be split between local charities SCIAF, HCPT Pilgrimage Trust and St Andrew's Hospice.
