This project was put together by North Lanarkshire Council in collaboration with groups like the Coatbridge Neighbourhood Board. However, the thoughts of those living in the town were sought at every stage, so that the project meets the needs and desires of residents.
The UK Government has awarded Coatbridge £19.5 million to progress the project, which will be provided in instalments over the upcoming decade. The funding is coming from the Pride in Place Programme that was set up by the Government.
Work on phase one will be able to start soon, as the first tranche of money has already been released. This initial phase will cost a total of £6.6 million.
When the local authority wants to get feedback from residents, it has the option of using flyer printing shops in Coatbridge. Flyers containing the necessary information can be a good way of getting the word out.
Gavin Whitefield is the Coatbridge Neighbourhood Board chair. According to the Glasgow Times, he said:
“Over the past two years, the community has told us clearly what matters most – from opportunities for young people to the future of the town centre – and this investment allows us to start delivering on those priorities.”
