North Lanarkshire Council is hoping to construct a new housing development at a site in Coatbridge, and it has now made the details public.
The local authority has done this as part of securing planning permission. It has submitted an internal application to another department of the council. If it gets the green light for the development, it will consist of 46 flats and eight houses. The site that the council is keen to use for the project is not far from Dunbeth Family Centre on Coats Street.
The particular piece of land that it wishes to deploy used to be occupied by a multi-storey block called Jackson Court. This was knocked down earlier in the year though, so there is nothing to stand in the way of the new scheme.
North Lanarkshire Council organised a consultation with Coatbridge residents before submitting its application. It arranged two meetings where people could express their views, but few attended. The local authority believes that this is because not many currently live in the area and most want the land to be built on.
