North Lanarkshire Council backs growth of Lidl

The local authority in North Lanarkshire has given the green light to an initiative from Lidl.

The supermarket chain Plans to move into a fresh regional distribution centre and the relevant council has agreed with the scheme. The shift could lead to the creation of over 350 jobs. Demand for printing services from Coatbridge may increase when construction of the new centre is completed.

The managing director of Lidl within Scotland, Ross Millar, stated:

“Our new regional distribution centre not only signifies an investment in our own infrastructure and workforce, but also highlights our wider ambitions within Scotland as Lidl UK continues to experience incredible growth.”

Millar paid tribute to the personnel who made the expansion a practical proposition. In addition, he underlined the importance of staff recruitment and retention.

Millar revealed that Lidl has been cooperating with North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) for some time. Building will begin before the end of 2017. Retail outlets distributed around Scotland might benefit from extra support when new employees at the centre perform their roles.

The submission to NLC showed that the centre will gain from being close to transport infrastructure that is currently being improved. Traffic generated by the development should be distributed throughout the day because of shift working. Council leader Jim Logue asserted that the decision by Lidl was an endorsement of the business location which would help drive local economic growth.
