About 40 council homes should be constructed close to a high school in Coatbridge, while another 20 properties are at the design stage in a nearby location. If the Plans are implemented, then newsletter printing from printing services within Coatbridge could be used to mark the progress made.
The new push for new accommodation is not restricted to Coatbridge, as sites across North Lanarkshire are being considered.
In total, over 280 fresh houses could be added to the local offer. An investment programme worth more than £170m is behind the initiative. Actual construction is due to begin in phases within the next year and a half. Jim Logue, a local councillor, told Scottish Housing News:
“I am delighted to see the next phase of our NL Homes project moving forward with work due to start on a number of sites this year. Over the next five years we will complete around 800 new council homes and aim to further expand our new house building programme in the future.”
Energy efficiency has been a concern for those behind the proposals. The idea is that green housing should be an affordable choice for any tenants. Another issue which is being looked at is facilitating usage for those with limited mobility. The security of the buildings will be a priority too. Get a Free Quote for Plans
