Museum in Coatbridge to prepare for upgrades

A popular museum that is situated within Coatbridge is being prepared for major upgrades to its exhibits during the upcoming years, with funding for that purpose having been secured.

Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life is based at Heritage Way, Coatbridge. It was opened 36 years ago on a site that used to be home to an ironworks from the 19th century. It has since been dubbed the noisiest museum in Scotland, and now the volume will be turned up even further, as it gets an upgrade that will bring its exhibitions closer to the present day.

The funding for this has been provided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The museum will collaborate with this fund on the allocation of the money, which will be used to create displays showcasing the more modern industrial history of Lanarkshire and Scotland as a whole.

Local attractions of this kind often rely on brochure printing outlets in Coatbridge. These can help with the supply of colour pamphlets detailing the different exhibits that are on display.

The current exhibits at Summerlee include much of the blast furnace from the old ironworks, as well as many pieces of industrial machinery. There is also a replica of a mine and cottages of the sort that the miners would have lived in.

This free museum recently welcomed the four millionth person to visit.
