Local skaters have received national recognition

A club of synchronised skaters has recently been honoured at the British championships held in Sheffield. The skaters in question have been training at a range of facilities, including ice rinks in Coatbridge and Stirling.

Kate Matthews, Starlight Rain team coach, has said:

ā€œI’m so proud of the team who have worked incredibly hard to achieve this, juggling their own work and family commitments.ā€

The team Starlight Rain is just part of a wider club. This was established back in 2010 and has expanded quite a lot since that time. Some team members have skated in Edinburgh as part of an ice dancing spectacle with television stars. In addition, the skaters have performed in Glasgow in an entertainment put on for devotees of ice hockey. They are now anticipating competing for a Scottish skating trophy.

Starlight Rain is in need of additional resources. In the past, the group has managed to access National Lottery funds, but if they want to compete at the highest level then they will probably have to get a proper sponsor eventually.

Without any extra funding in the medium term, the skaters will find it problematic to purchase equipment and time on the ice. Their efforts to travel to competitions will also be limited if they cannot get more financial backing. The use of poster printing in Coatbridge may help the women to attract some of the money which they require.
