Lanarkshire software firm involved in takeover

A software company in the East Kilbride area called Gael has recently been taken over by Nottingham-based firm Ideagen.

The Lanarkshire enterprise had employed over 100 staff prior to the takeover. The plan is that it will still have a separate identity from Ideagen in the future. Its managers may decide to use digital printing in Coatbridge to promote their services going forward.

Gael had been considering different ways of expanding its operations before the deal with Ideagen. For a period of two years, its management had been thinking about options such as private equity.

The talks with the Nottinghamshire enterprise commenced back in July. Ideagen was not a direct competitor with Gael, and this fact limited the potential threat to employment.

David Hornsby, the chief executive for Ideagen, has outlined the advantages of the deal from his perspective. He has said that the takeover will enable the organisation to profit from new applications quickly. In addition, he has stressed that it will be in a strong position to benefit from growth in the market associated with compliance and risk.

Ashley Marron, the chief executive of Gael, has said:

“All of this dramatically upgrades our capability to deliver the very best technology and services that help our customers achieve operational excellence, assure compliance, strengthen their reputation and brand, and prevent undesirable events.”
