A Lanarkshire business has had to move into bigger premises following a tax on plastic Bags within Scotland.
Jutexpo, a manufacturer of Bags, has gained from the shift in policy. The enterprise could use digital printing in Coatbridge for promotional purposes. The jute Bags that the firm has produced have been sold to supermarkets and charities throughout the UK. Sam Turner, a director for Jutexpo, has said:
“We have seen a significant uplift in demand due to the new bag charge as it offers Scottish companies a great opportunity to boost their green initiatives and reduce the CO2 plastic carrier production creates.”
Users of Scottish retail outlets have been forced to pay 5p each for Bags that cannot be reused since October 2014. This has led to demand for these conventional carrier Bags slumping by over 50 per cent. Before the introduction of the policy, Scottish people used more ordinary carrier Bags per person than the remainder of the UK.
As a result, Jutexpo has formed the aspiration of relocating into a business centre within Bellshill Park. It will have the opportunity to make progress inside managed workspace that is under the ownership of UK Steel Enterprise.
The fortunes of the company could be affected by an upcoming policy shift south of the border. Reusable Bags will be in greater demand in England when rules are introduced in relation to using conventional carrier Bags in larger shops.
