The owners of Rainbow Room International (RRI), which also has salons in Glasgow and Stirling, established the Glasgow-based academy back in 2003. Over 80 students pass through the academy each year, and the new programme will show the interaction between people as they try to make it as hairdressers.
RRI has taken the opportunity to highlight some of its charitable activity, which includes working with cancer charities like the Teenage Cancer Trust and wig banks. If RRI wants to advertise its charitable work after the reality show comes to an end, it could use full colour printing in Coatbridge; one of its executives, John Parker, comes from the area.
Parker has had previous experience of show business, having cut the hair of celebrities like James Nesbitt, Pete Doherty and James Brown. He obtained this experience by being involved in a pop-up salon at a music festival.
The director of Rainbow Room told the Daily Record:
“I work a lot for the Teenage Cancer Trust, trying to raise money by going on treks and these stories put everything in perspective. If I can get a wee girl to feel better about her hair, then that’s really nice.”
