Film selected for Coatbridge Festival screening

A group of filmmakers in North Lanarkshire have been celebrating after one of their movies was selected for screening at the upcoming Coatbridge Deep Fried Film Festival.

The film, Xanadu, was created by Tempest Productions, which was set up by a trio of local brothers: John, Quentin and Dominic Reynolds. The film is based on an author who finds himself suffering from writer's block and is then mysteriously transported to an old building where his novels are set.

Dominic, who directed the film, spoke about the group’s involvement with the Deep Fried Film Festival. He said:

"The festival is a fantastic place to start as it’s local to us and increasingly well regarded. We are really grateful for the opportunity and hope as many people as possible turn out to see the film.”

The success of independent movies and film festivals often relies upon a solid promotional strategy, involving online and offline marketing tactics in the form of social media promotion and traditional poster printing. Coatbridge is home to a number of budding directors and films like Xanadu could start to get real recognition with the help of local printing companies.

The Deep Fried Film Festival runs from August 10-17 and is being held at the Conforti Institute. All profits raised from the festival will be donated to charities, such as Cancer Research UK and Hepatitis Scotland.

The festival aims to provide local people with the opportunities to develop their filmmaking skills while also giving them the chance to showcase their work.
