Commonwealth cyclists to visit North Lanarkshire

The route of the time trials for cyclists participating in the Commonwealth Games has been made public. Spectators in Glasgow, North Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire will have the opportunity to see the male and female athletes competing for medals.

Jim Robertson, a councillor representing North Lanarkshire, has said:

“This is a real opportunity to showcase North Lanarkshire to a global audience. We are already working hard to make sure the event is a real community celebration and to provide the very best experience for visitors and residents alike.”

Many residents of Coatbridge should be really interested in the cycling. However, if the organisers want to stimulate more enthusiasm, they could use flyer printing around Coatbridge to increase local awareness of the events in question.

On Thursday 31st July, the male and female cyclists will take part in their respective challenges. Both sets of competitors will begin and conclude their efforts within Glasgow. The men will negotiate a course some 40 km in length, while the women will complete a course that is somewhat shorter.

Rhondda Geekie, from the local authority of North Dunbartonshire, has stressed that the time trials will be just one part of a spectacular summer of sport. The council leader has also made it apparent that significant attempts will be made to limit any disruption for the local communities which might be affected.
