Coatbridge woman celebrates birthday milestone

Jeannie Hamill of Coatbridge recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Born during the middle of World War One, Ms. Hamill did not retire until she was 73. She worked in fish-and-chip outlets and cafés during
her career. People who want to have a special birthday party can access poster printing from a local Print company. Ms. Hamill told the Daily Record about her day:

“It was lovely. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone. My family and friends are special to me. My gifts and the flowers were beautiful – I have been spoiled rotten.”

The granddaughter of Ms. Hamill has talked about the long life of her relative. She has explained how Ms. Hamill has not credited her achievement to a healthy lifestyle. Instead, the centenarian has apparently suggested that her reaching her milestone was the result of being nice to other people.

Ms. Hamill was married to a miner called Sonny. He was obliged to retire from coal mining due to poor health. He died before he reached 65, after working in the ice cream sector.

Ms. Hamill has not had an idle retirement. She has engaged in creative writing and has also taken the time to write letters to newspapers and magazines. Her prose has secured prizes, while she has experimented with poetry too. She has lived within Summerlee House in Coatbridge and this care home is where her big bash was held.
