Coatbridge firm receives praise for flexible working

Recognition was given to Coatbridge-based SST Sensing recently for its flexible working scheme.

SST Sensing is located in Hagmill Crescent within Coatbridge. The electronics supplier and manufacturer succeeded in the category of best medium employer in the Top Employers Awards. These awards have secured support from a third sector organisation called Family Friendly Working Scotland (FFWS). Stationery printers can be used to highlight a variety of corporate achievements.

A co-director at FFWS, Nikki Slowey, told the Daily Record:

“Congratulations to SST Sensing, who are nurturing a new way of working in Scotland. Offering flexibility around when, where and how people work helps them feel less stressed and more focused.”

Slowey outlined how flexible working has great commercial potential. By boosting employee engagement and motivation, the right approach can deliver increases in productivity. These are sustainable in part because flexible working can limit absenteeism.

However, Slowey is clear that there is more to be done. She feels that too few Scottish enterprises have embraced inclusive working cultures.

At the awards ceremony, SST Sensing obtained its prize from Jamie Hepburn MSP, the Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills. Hepburn is confident that flexible working can improve recruitment and staff retention. In addition, he believes that rolling out best practice in this area is one method by which the persistent gender pay gap can be addressed.
