The scheme is intended to boost local regeneration efforts. A total of £800,000 has been made available. Homeowners in the boundaries of the conservation area could receive a maximum of £15,000 to help meet the costs of repairs. Stationery printers in Coatbridge may be used by organisations involved in the delivery of local projects.
Allan Graham, a councillor, said:
“Regeneration of the conservation area is a key part of our Coatbridge town centre action plan, and we are keen to work with property owners to restore the buildings and preserve the character of the area.”
Parts of Main Street, Sunnyside Road and Academy Street are covered by the initiative. Officials from the local authority have conducted an inspection of the properties concerned. It was this move which led them to increase the funding which residents can access going forward.
A former library in the vicinity is being converted into apartments by the Clyde Valley Housing Association and it has proposed to preserve a facade of sandstone to make sure that the accommodation continues to match the surrounding buildings. A courtyard garden should be appreciated by the people who occupy the flats.
The old library has not been used for seven years. Local people have been able to use another centre to have their library-related needs met.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
