Coatbridge clean-up is a success

A clean-up operation in Coatbridge has been hailed as a success following a recent drive to remove rubbish from the town centre.

Students in their first year at Coatbridge High School recently teamed up with employees of the local Asda supermarket to aid a huge clean-up of the town centre. Wearing protective gloves and high-viz Vests, the students worked alongside the supermarket workers and the campus police officer, PC Cuthbert, to remove rubbish, debris and discarded shopping trolleys from around the South Circular road area. The team collected a whopping 50 discarded trolleys as part of its clean-up, as well as recovering a number of Bags of litter.

Environmental awareness is high up on the agenda of many organisations throughout the UK, particularly large corporations like Asda. Posters and leaflets are often used to communicate messages about ‘keeping Britain tidy’, or encouraging people to bin their litter rather than drop it on the floor, or return their trolleys to the bays in supermarkets. Major campaigns have been staged to aid clean-ups or prevent litter throughout the country, using collateral produced using poster and flyer printing.

Coatbridge High School students were happy to help with the clean-up, much like their counterparts from Asda. The head teacher from Coatbridge High School, Jane O’Neil, said:

“We are delighted to have been a part of such a fantastic community initiative. Our pupils, PC Cuthbert and staff at Asda did a superb job.”

The students and Asda staff hope that their clean-up wasn’t in vain, and that local people will help to keep the area looking as neat as it does now.
