Joe Kelly, who has been associated with the event for several years, has said:
“[The rally] is getting bigger and better every year and I still thoroughly enjoy doing it, especially to help such a noble cause.”
Up to 100 vehicles take part in the event, which is connected with a group of classic car enthusiasts. This club gathers on a monthly basis, and meetings commence in the evening on some Thursdays. The get-togethers take place within a social club, and new members enjoy free entry.
The car rally may attract even more people in 2015 if organisers opt to use a printing company in Coatbridge for advertising purposes. Visitors to the rally this year were entertained in several different ways; children could appreciate balloon modelling and face painting, while other entertainments provided included a dance group and a pipe band.
Money was raised via a tombola held in the afternoon.
The cars on display had been driven from the social club in the morning, and were then put on show in Summerlee. The museum offers a focus on heritage, making it an appropriate place for people to view the vehicles.
At the age of 70, Joe Kelly is the owner of a few vintage cars. He revealed that one of the prizes made available was access to a Birmingham car show.
