The new TV campaign, which will air across Scotland, targets several regions in particular, including North Lanarkshire. In addition to this, Cycle Friendly Zones are being set up and this is being supported by radio adverts and flyer printing. Coatbridge school children should find that if they choose to cycle to school once the campaign is underway, their route could be made safer by this awareness drive.
Flyers have been distributed to the parents of school children in the key Cycle Friendly Zone areas and these are designed to give tips on how to drive safely when driving around children on cycles. The campaign itself is called ‘Give me cycle space’. The chief executive of Cycling Scotland is Ian Aitken. He spoke about the campaign, saying:
“With an estimated 50% of school children getting less than their recommended activity levels a day, cycling to school is an ideal way of reducing this figure and increasing children’s exercise routine.
"Research shows that children want to cycle to school so we hope by making sure drivers look out for them, more children in Scotland will get on their bikes and cycle to school.”
The TV ad for the campaign has already started to air and the rest of the campaign activity will last for six weeks. Get a Free Quote for Flyers
