Airdrie Asda to bring new jobs and road improvements

Officials from supermarket giant Asda have revealed Plans to build a store in Airdrie that is expected to create around 300 jobs and improve certain roads in the area.

Company representatives will submit more details in 2014, when they hope to begin working on the new outlet.

With Plans in place for the store to open at some point in 2015, representatives from the community are reportedly delighted that Plans from the chain are progressing.

Asda is also working on bringing improvements to a number of troublesome junctions near the Carlisle Road site chosen for the store.

When councillors gave the project the go-ahead in April this year, they cited the company’s resolution to address the issues with some of the local roads – as well as the increased employment opportunities – as their reason for backing the scheme.

Speaking recently to a local newspaper, an Asda spokesperson said that the supermarket is working with North Lanarkshire Council to finalise details of the road improvements – after which it will submit its Plans for the new store.

When new shops open in the region, they often use flyer printing in Coatbridge to let residents know about services and products that will be available.

The chair of Craigneuk and Old Petersburn Road Tenants and Residents Association, Sharon Craig, spoke in favour of Asda’s proposals and is “over the moon”.

She said that people in the community have been enquiring about when the outlet will be open, and said that “everyone” is behind it.
