Prestwich schools to close early for highly anticipated gigs

Prestwich is set to be the location for one of the most eagerly awaited reunions of the year next month, and now it has been announced that several local schools will close early to accommodate it.

The town will be hosting the celebrated Gallagher brothers, as they bring back their iconic rock band Oasis. The band announced its reunion tour last year – and tickets for the concerts sold out almost immediately. The tour is set to include five high profile shows in Prestwich, with Heaton Park serving as the venue for them. Now, it has been confirmed that two of those gigs will lead to early school closures.

While three of the shows take place at the weekend, the other two are scheduled for weekday evenings. As a result, four Prestwich schools will close early on the days in question so that parents and children are not swamped by music fans.

St Monica’s RC High School and Sedgley Park Primary will both close at lunchtime. St Margaret’s Primary and Heaton Park Primary have opted for early afternoon closures. Stationery printers in Prestwich can be useful to local schools, when they need to notify parents about changes of this kind.

The Oasis reunion concerts are expected to be spectacular events, with more than 400,000 tickets having been sold. The weekday concerts will take place on 11 and 16 July.
