Park in Prestwich to welcome back electric trams

The electric trams are set to return to a prominent park in Prestwich, with the confirmation that funding has been secured for repair works.

Rides on the trams were among the most popular attractions at Heaton Park, which is on Old Bury Road. They have not been available during the past year or so though, due to safety risks associated with the electrical substation. This is what makes the Heritage Tramway run, but it has to be brought up to modern standards of safety. Now, the money to carry out that work has been secured.

Manchester City Council will be providing funding to the tune of £481,000, which will let the work be completed. A spokesperson for the local authority said that this will ensure the safe running of the trams for current and future generations.

When councils want to let visitors know about attractions in the area, Prestwich shops that offer brochure printing can be useful. Brochures with photos and information about each attraction are a good way of informing people.

Much of the work of maintaining the electric trams is carried out by Manchester Transport Museum Society. This is a community organisation made up of volunteers with a passion for the subject. Its chairman is Geoff Senior, and he said the funding was a fantastic piece of news.

The tramway should reopen by the summer.
