There will be a community cafe, community stalls, a fancy dress competition, beer rent and cakes - and money raised will go towards the parish itself. The organisers say that more Plans for the event will be posted online over the coming weeks, asking:
“Why not come and join the fun and help raise money for the village?”
With a population of just 296, as of the 2011 census, it is expected that the May Fair will attract just as many day trippers from nearby Dorchester as village residents themselves.
First-time visitors will notice a village with a mix of building styles from down the ages. Spread across four lanes which meet in the middle, a well-known landmark of the parish is the Rivers Arms pub. This hostelry and restaurant is noted for its excellent food. Including light bites, tapas, homemade specials and burgers.
There is a 14th century church with battlements and gargoyles, but Cheselbourne dates back much further than this era - it is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Although there are no more than around 140 houses in the village, those who wish to stay in Cheselbourne should note that the Rivers Arms does have guest rooms. There are also limited properties available for short-term rental online.
