A street fair that celebrates an author with connections to Dorchester is returning to the town this spring after an absence of three years.
The Thomas Hardy Victorian Street Fair is an event unlike any other on the town’s calendar. It sees Dorchester transported back more than a century to the time when the writer of Far From the Madding Crowd and The Mayor of Casterbridge lived there. It is held to celebrate Hardy’s birthday and features a range of different activities from live performances to artisan stalls and traditional crafting.
This is an event that is ideal for the whole family to enjoy, as there is entertainment for people of all ages. That includes music, games and demonstrations of Victorian crafts.
Beyond that though, it gives residents the chance to find out more about the famous author. What many of those living in Dorchester may not realise is that Hardy based his fictional town of Casterbridge directly on it.
Poster printing by Dorchester shops can be a useful service to the organisers of live local events like this. This is because Posters are a great way to advertise them ahead of the date.
This year will be the first time that the Victorian Street Fair has taken place since 2023. Details of the full programme will be made available nearer the time.
It is set to be held on 31 May.Get a Free Quote for Posters
