Dorchester set to welcome sun sculpture

Dorchester is set to welcome the arrival of spring in suitable fashion this year, as the town plays host to a sculpture that depicts the surface of the sun.

This is the work of Luke Jerram, a British artist, and it is called Helios. It will be coming to Dorchester in early spring, just as the real sun should be starting to make its first appearances after winter. Helios has a diameter of seven metres and provides a 1:200 million-scale representation of the sun. It will be on show in Dorchester for a total of 10 days.

The venue that will be exhibiting it is the Corn Exchange and the display will be enhanced by music composed especially for it. This is the creation of Sarah Anderson and Duncan Speakman. Together with the animated illumination and solar imagery, the idea is to create an exhibit the viewers become totally immersed in.

When local venues are staging exhibitions, it is important to advertise them to residents. Poster printing by shops in Dorchester can help them to do that.

This particular exhibition will be available for residents to visit at no cost. The Corn Exchange is teaming up with Dorchester Town Council to put it on.

Alongside the main exhibit, there will be a display of art by local people that is themed around the sun. It will run from 28th March.
