Widow to complete trek for hospice in Macclesfield

The widow of a man who rose to fame as a contestant on The Great British Bake Off will honour his memory and raise awareness of a hospice in Macclesfield through a trek across Iceland.

Louise Troyano is the widow of Luis Troyano, who came second on the popular television baking contest back in 2015. He impressed the judging panel with his specialties, a tropical Manchester tart and chocolate mousse, but was sadly diagnosed with cancer three years ago, and died of the disease towards the end of 2020.

During his illness, he was treated at East Cheshire Hospice in Macclesfield. Now, his widow Plans to increase public awareness of that facility and pay tribute to him. She will be undertaking a trek across Iceland that the hospice is helping to organise.

People in Macclesfield who are taking part in events such as this sometimes use poster printing from local shops, alongside online promotions, to spread the word.

The date that has been chosen for the trek coincides with the anniversary of the couple’s marriage. Speaking to In Your Area, Louise said:
“I’m doing something that creates a new memory of that day. I always try to do something new on the days you’re supposed to be sad on.”

The trek is scheduled to last for three days and takes place in November 2024.
