Political comedy drama to take to the stage in Macclesfield

Simon Woods' play Hansard is due to receive a run of performances in Macclesfield at the end of April and the beginning of May.

It's a Saturday in 1988 when Tory cabinet minister Robin Hesketh returns home to his house in the Cotswolds, one that he and his wife of 30 years, Diana, share. But all is not bliss.

Diana is hungover, their garden is being wrecked by a fox and past secrets are in the process of being uncovered. As the day progresses, what begins as gentle marital humour turns brutally sour.

Hansard is said to be both an intimate drama about a marriage in crisis and a political comedy about the ruling class's abject failings. It is set against the backdrop of the Section 28 legislation, which introduced a ban on promoting homosexuality that was passed in 1988.

Simon Woods, the writer, is an Oxford University graduate, and Hansard was his stage debut. He is also an actor with TV appearances that include Rome, Spooks and Cranford, as well as movies such as Pride and Prejudice and Starter for 10.

Ticket prices will be announced at a later date. Brochure printing can be a useful option when it comes to the promotion of a stage play or theatrical event like this.

Hansard will run from Monday, 27 April to Saturday, 2 May at MADS Theatre, Macclesfield.
