Children's art parade to be held in Macclesfield

Elmer’s Christmas Art Parade, presented by Macclesfield Town Council, is due to be held in the town over the Christmas period.

This draws on the work of the late children's author and illustrator David McKee (1935- 2022), perhaps best known for classics such as 'Mr Benn'. His popular character Elmer the Patchwork Elephant has been used as inspiration for the parade, and different variations from artists have been created to form a public trail.

Each artist has transformed Elmer into a sculpture of their own, using a wide selection of designs that celebrate key themes, notably friendship and inclusivity. The decorated elephants have been curated by 'Wild In Art', which is a North West Company, and they will appear throughout the town centre, forming a parade consisting of 12.

Elmer’s Christmas Art Parade is running for nine weeks and can be enjoyed in a host of public spaces such as the Grosvenor Centre, The Silk Museum, Macclesfield Library, Mill Street and in eight other easily accessible locations. This a free event, but interested parties can book ahead of time on Macclesfield Town Council’s website. Stationery printers can offer a valuable service when it comes to the promotion of social and public events like this one.

Elmer’s Art Parade is now open and will run until Friday, 9 January in Macclesfield town centre.
