Scrutiny of development planned for Macclesfield

A potential development within Macclesfield is currently being examined.

Hillcrest Homes aspires to construct 115 homes at a Macclesfield location. The area under discussion has been occupied by King’s School. Graphic design can be helpful in the housing sector, especially at the planning stage.

King’s School is moving to premises in Prestbury over the summer. Jon Suckley is representing the developer. He recently attended a planning committee of Cheshire East Council. He said:

“This site is very important for Macclesfield and Hillcrest has undertaken a significant level of consultation with officers, stakeholders and the community since 2016.”

For Suckley, the project benefits from a sensitive design. This approach aims to respect several existing amenities and listed buildings. The hope is that the result will be the delivery of high-quality housing.

It may be thought necessary to demolish the cricket pavilion. However, this structure was built during the interwar period. It has served the local community as a war memorial and it has even secured recognition from the Imperial War Museum. In 2001, the pavilion was given a makeover worth about £75,000.

Macclesfield Town Council has taken an interest in the future of the pavilion. Councillor Fiona Wilson would prefer this item of heritage to be preserved on the site. However, the desire to avoid having to build on greenfield sites may mean that objections to the potential development are unsuccessful.
