The play 'Ugly Duck', written by Deborah McAndrew, is due to be performed by the Macclesfield Amateur Dramatic Society over three days in mid-April in the town.
It tells the story of a man from Burslem, called Dennis Hancock, who also just happens to be a committed Port Vale supporter. The play is set in the Potteries against a backdrop of industrial decline and the impact it has on people's lives.
Hancock now finds himself in his middle years and simultaneously facing up to long-term unemployment. In total desperation, he replies to an advertisement in a local newspaper, placed by someone seeking an artist's model. It is through this that his life changes dramatically.
This includes making new friends in the form of a much-troubled youthful artist Kat Drosdzowski and her domineering parents. Whilst Drosdzowski starts to paint him, Hancock soon discovers that he will be exposed - much more than he first thought.
Critics are hailing this as a “warm-feeling comedy” with a positive message about the Potteries period and its struggles, as well as celebrating unusual friendships and the healing powers of art.
Tickets range in price from £10.00 to £12.00. The value of brochure printing shouldn't be underestimated when it comes to the promotion of a play or theatrical event.
'Ugly Duck' will appear on stage between Thursday, 10 April and Saturday, 12 April at MADS Little Theatre, Macclesfield.
