Macclesfield charity offers environmentally friendly COVID protection

A Macclesfield-based charity is selling sustainable face masks.

The Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre has teamed up with a green enterprise, Rewearable Clothing, so that it can sell face masks with an astronomical theme. As a bonus, the marks have been created from recycled material. Printing services can be helpful in the third sector, especially when a charity is offering something a little different.

Beccy Waite established Rewearable Clothing this year. The firm aspires to lessen the environmental impact associated with fast fashion. It secures suitable materials from thrift stores, jumble sales and charity shops.

Waite told InYourArea:

“This was our biggest order to date and involved carefully finding and selecting the right fabrics and materials.”

It has been necessary to manufacture more than 100 masks to give the charity sufficient stock. The quality of the masks has been prioritised, and the items will be sold via the Jodrell Bank online gift shop.

An entrepreneur, Waite has valuable experience of ecommerce and face painting, although the pandemic has put her face painting activities on hold for the moment. Waite has been assisted by her twin daughters Jessica and Charlotte, who are are teenagers and have helped their mother during the lockdowns. At school, the girls have been studying the subject of Enterprise, so their practical efforts in business should boost their learning.
