Macclesfield charity appeal looks to 2020

A charity appeal for a Macclesfield-based cancer centre is looking forward to 2020.

It has been revealed that the charity appeal for the new Macclesfield cancer hub has already raised £3 million. The hope is that the surge in public generosity will continue into 2020. Printing services are often useful in the third sector, particularly during the course of specific campaigns.

Louise Stimson, fundraising chief for The Christie charity, told the Knutsford Guardian:

“So many people have told us why they are passionate about bringing The Christie to Macclesfield. There will be hundreds of fundraising activities and events in 2020 giving people the opportunity to get involved with and support the appeal.”

Lead consultant Dr Andrew Sykes is involved in the initiative and has thanked everyone who has contributed to the project so far. He hopes that a new hub will facilitate patient access to services. He believes that a local healthcare solution may ultimately improve outcomes.

The optimism of Dr Sykes is based on evidence. The idea is that patients can benefit when they obtain radiotherapy and chemotherapy without having a long wait between the treatments.

At the moment, local people affected by cancer often have to engage in travel. It is possible to secure some treatment within Macclesfield, but journeys to get help in southern Manchester are not uncommon. This arrangement can add to the stress experienced by patients and families alike.
